International groups: checklist and next steps
In this page you can find the COMPOSITION OF ALL THE GROUPS, the tutor to which each group has been associated, the reference teacher for each student in the group and, above all, the topics on which the group will work, first carrying out a content and iconographic research, and subsequently transforming this research into the definitive e-books, thanks to the platform editor.
The next steps TUTORS should take in order to prepare the third and last phase of works of the project ALL, can be summarized in this CHECKLIST:
CONNECT
Gather all the e-mails of the students belonging to your groups, and their skype contacts asking to their teachers.
IMPORTANT! You should collect the e-mails and communicate the topics to the students before the Christmas breaks, asking them to read up on the topics before the first skype-meeting, when they will have to agree with the tutor the titles of the chapters (and therefore the index of their e-books).
SHARE A MEETING CALENDAR
In order to help you we have to know your roadmap: create a schedule of the skype meetings you plan to have with the groups, and we’ll publish on the platform your agenda, so you’ll easily find what the next deadline is and when.
We suggest you to share this agenda with the groups during the same skype call you’ll have to communicate the topics to them, and then to transfer you roadmap to CivicaMente with an e-mail.
SHARE THE TOPICS WITH THE GROUPS
As easy as it gets: students have to know what to work on and when.
Within the international group, each national unit (i.e. 2 students from Ravenna, or Gela, or Zagreb, or Limassol), has to work on one chapter of each e-book (hence two chapters for each national unit): this will generate an index of contents, that you have to figure out now, to let each national unit focus their research.
EXAMPLE:
If the topic 1 is Marine pollution, you should decide that your e-book will touch four areas of it, such as plastics, noise, tourism, oil. At that point you will ask to students from Gela to research contents and images regarding plastics, to the unit from Zagreb to do the same for the oil spills issue, ecc.
The same process has to be done for topic 2.
Remember to advice the students to research images that are free for non-commercial use or creative commons licensed, even better if you ask them to search on website like pixabay.com or unsplash.com as they have very beautiful images and always free for non commercial purposes.
Everything can be discussed this in the first skype call, while you agree with them on the skype meetings agenda.
INDIVIDUAL STUDY
The students can now tackle the individual study phase, which will last until January the 31st 2020.
THE E-BOOKS CONTENTS SKYPE-MEETINGS
To minimize the weight of the skype-meeting on tutors, we decided to limit ourselves to two skype-meetings per group: the first to agree and approve the chapters of the number one e-book, the second to do the same with the e-book number two. Although the meetings may be more extensive, they would also be more inclusive and, above all, they would be limited to 2 for each group (then 10 for each tutor).
With the same objective, the final meeting dedicated to image search alone has been eliminated, as it is more logical that it is carried out directly within each research path.
EXAMPLE:
During the first week of February the skype meetings could be organized to approve the first e-book, while during the first week of March those for the second.
CREATE A REPORT FOR EACH MEETING
We strongly encourage you to keep track of the meetings with the students: if you’re using a webcam you can also screen-capture the meeting, but in any case, even a brief written report will be okay. Every report will be published on the platform.
